Floods failed to prove a washout for council workers who picked up a top award for their gardening efforts.
Chesterfield came third in the small city category of this year's East Midlands in Bloom competition, winning a Silver Gilt Medal Certificate.

It was pipped to the runners-up position by Oadby and Wigston in Leicestershire, while Mansfield walked away with the winner's prize.

Last year also saw the town scoop a silver gilt award - one step up from its silver award in 2005.

Cllr Ian Openshaw, environmental services chief at Chesterfield Borough Council, said: "If we had got better than silver gilt we would have been delighted, but considering the floods, our staff have done a wonderful job to get the standard required and I look forward to us carrying on and getting better awards in future years."

Chesterfield Crematorium also walked away with a Judges' Award in the same category for its high-quality management and maintenance standards.
