A multi-award winning school is celebrating chalking-up another success for its garden.
Spire Infants School has scooped the Best School Garden award in this year's East Midlands in Bloom contest.

The accolade is the latest in a long line of prizes the school has won for its garden, with prizes also coming from Chesterfield in Bloom and Bakewell Show.

Last year the Derby Road school also walked away with a Judges Award from the East Midlands competition.

Jane Garrett, headteacher, said: "It's a fabulous reward.

"The children do look after it. They plant and harvest it – the whole process.

"But, it's their garden and they are fiercely protective of it."

The school has created two organic and eco-friendly gardens in its grounds – one with flowers and shrubs and the second with fruit and vegetables.

Harvested goods are then made into healthy meals including fruit salads and roasted veg.
