Chesterfield lose 4-1 on penalties
Chesterfield's disastrous home form continued on Wednesday night as they crashed out of the competition on penalties.
The Spireties twice led in the game - only to suffer in the spot-kick shoot-out.
Lee Richardson's side had taken the lead in the 18th minute through Jack Lester.
But the visitors were on level terms before the interval thanks to a goal from Nathan Jarman.
Chesterfield's hopes of progressing into the next round were given a boost when Lloyd Kerry put them back in front in the 52nd minute.
Danny North netted an equaliser for Grimsby in the 78th minute as the game headed towards the penalty decider.
Grimsby started first and scored through Chris Lewellyn - but Jamie Ward saw his effort go over the top.
North added a second for the visitors and then Phil Picken's spot kick was saved by the Grimsby keeper to put the pressure on the Spireites.
Newey made it 3-0 to the away team before Alan Goodall netted Chesterfield's first goal.
Jarman continued Grimsby's successful run with their fourth spot kick to wrap up the game.
