Chesterfield had two other new faces on display in their 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at Saltergate on Tuesday night.
They were left-sided full-back Alan Goodall, who is about to be released by Luton Town and Belgian-based player Akwasi Oduru.

Both looked solid prospects.

Meanwhile, the Blues have completed the signing of experienced midfielder Darren Currie following his release by Luton.

The paperwork has now been finalised after the player had earlier agreed a three-year deal with the Spireites.

The highly-rated 33-year-old is a former West Ham trainee who hit the headlines with Wycombe Wanderers before moving to Championship side Ipswich Town for £250,000 in 2004 following a short spell with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chesterfield's pre-season programme continues on Saturday at Burton Albion before a visit to Sheffield FC, the world's oldest club, at Dronfield's Coach and Horses ground on Monday.

* Chesterfield FC holds its open day on Sunday when the new away shirt will be officially launched. There will also be a chance to meet the players at the event, which will take place between 10am-2pm.
