Members of Chesterfield FC fans group CFSS have been advised approve the sale of the vast majority of the group's shareholding in the football club.
The call comes from John Croot, the CFSS chairman, ahead of a ballot which closes on Monday.

If the vote is carried, it would give CFSS the go-ahead to sell the shares to help finance community facitities at the Spireites new stadium.

Croot said: "The CFSS board is unanimously recommending its members to vote 'Yes'.

''Having community facilities at the new stadium has always been a key objective and raising additional funds in this way will ensure it becomes a reality.

''Despite new ownership of the football club since Dave Allen took over recently as the new majority shareholder, the society will maintain its close links with the club by retaining supporter representation on the football club board.''

Ballot papers have been posted out and it is proposed by CFSS that 225,210 CFC ordinary £1 shares should be available to be sold.

Croot said that it was anticipated than in excess of 80,000 will be bought by the new majority shareholder.

Members have until June 15 to cast their vote.

Shares held by individual members of CFSS will not be affected by this sale.

The society will retain its original shareholding of 6,240 which it gained with money raised at the launch meeting at the Winding Wheel eight years ago.

The society, a supporters' trust, was formed in 2001 and played a key role in preventing the club going out of business.

The CFSS is to hold an open meeting later in the year to give members the chance to discuss the society's community aspirations and future role in supporting the football club.

Meanwhile, Chesterfield FC supporters are reminded that the cost of season tickets for 2009-10 will revert to the full price after this week.

Fans have an opportunity to buy discounted season tickets until 5pm on Friday.

This is also the deadline for existing season ticket holders to claim their seats and season tickets books are now available for collection for the Spireites last ever season at Saltergate.

Purchasing a season ticket also continues to offer substantial savings over match day prices and offers many additional benefits as well.
