New Chesterfield FC majority shareholder Dave Allen has promised fans "attractive, attacking football" that will fire the club up into the Championship.
The former Sheffield Wednesday chairman now owns an 80 per cent stake in the Spireites having invested £4m, plus a £2m loan, to make up the funding shortfall for the new stadium.

And Mr Allen was quick to outline his plans for the Blues, stating that he has "serious ambitions for Championship football within three to five years" – although he will not be throwing money about irresponsibly.

"We will get a proper manager, we shall play good, attractive, attacking football but we will not go out spending fortunes on players," he said.

"It's not all about how much money you spend it's about getting it right.

"It's about proper management."

Mr Allen was given the go-ahead to invest in Chesterfield last week after the Football League gave special permission for the deal.

This was required because of Mr Allen's involvement with Sheffield Wednesday – where he still holds just under ten per cent of shares and is still owed around £2m.

But as majority shareholder at Chesterfield, his focus is firmly set on the Spireites and where he wants to take them.

"We need to get out of this division as soon as possible, have a couple of years in the first division and then get into the Championship," he said.

"We have got to try and get out of this division this year."
Although all of the money invested by Mr Allen is going towards the new stadium, he assured fans that there is money for new players and was "surprised" at the size of the playing budget.

He added: "The aim is to get into the Championship debt-free. I will be delighted if we do that and that's what the plan is."
