Chesterfield FC manager Lee Richardson has blasted Football Association chiefs for refusing to take action over an incident which led to Lloyd Kerry being sent off during the 3-0 defeat at Dagenham.
Saturday's League Two match erupted into controversy in the 37th minute following a clash between Kerry and Daggers striker Ben Strevens.

The Blues claim film of the incident shows Strevens grabbing Kerry's shorts and squeezing where it is most painful.

Kerry crumpled up in agony but threw a punch at Strevens and was red carded for his retaliation, referee James Linington having seen the fist but not the 'squeeze'.

During the second half, Spireites captain Rob Page was also dismissed for clashing in the air with Strivens.

FA bosses have imposed three-match bans on Kerry and Page while Strevens has escaped scot-free.

Isle of Wight referee Linington contacted the FA after watching the match video, prompting an investigation into Streven's role in the incident.

But after a full review, the FA has decreed that there insufficient evidence to bring charges against the player. The decision has left Blues boss Richardson fuming.

He said: "This is almost a case of the punishment not fitting the crime as the current rules don't seem to cover understandable retaliation.

"In the spirit of fairness I hope that the FA will review the rules to see if incidents like this can be handled with greater flexibility in the future.

"Apart from that we accept the punishments and just have to get on with it."

The FA ruling means Chesterfield will be without Page and Kerry for Saturday's away match at Rochdale and the subsequent two games.

Meanwhile, keeper Tommy Lee will be sidelined for six weeks after suffering a broken jaw at the end of a night out in Sheffield with three team mates.

Lee had gone to the city last Tuesday evening with Paul Harsley, Phil Picken and Danny Hall and was attacked from behind by an unknown assailant in a taxi rank around midnight.

Lee spent two night in a Sheffield hospital following an operation to correct the problem.

The keeper, who began his career with Manchester United, was due to speak to a legal adviser at Saltergate today.

Richardson said: ''I could have done without it. Every football team goes out and has drinks together, as doesny group of employees. You want that bonding between them, but this appears to be a massive slice of bad luck.''

Meanwhile, big frontman Val Teixeira could made his Chesterfield debut this weekend after agreeing a four-month contractat Saltergate.

The Blues were awaiting international clearance for the 6ft 2in Portugese-born striker who could be due for a place on the bench at Spotland.

Teixeira (31) netted a hat-trick for Chesterfield reserves in a 4-0 victory over Wolves last week.

Once a youngster with Benfica, Teixeira has been playing in the USA for Crystal Palace's sister club in Baltimore.

He was invited to Selhurst Park for a trial before Chesterfield were tipped off about him by Palace assistant boss Mick Jones.

Richardson said: ''He's a big, strong left-footed striker. We will have to work on him a bit but he could be great.
