When coal was king
For decades the pits were among the biggest employers' in Derbyshire. Coal is king no longer, with the demise of our deep mines in the 1990s.
Gone are the pitheads which were such landmarks on the county skyline — and mining communities have broken up.
But coal's past is a rich seam and the Derbyshire Times is looking to catalogue that proud heritage in a book later to be published this year.
And we need YOUR help to make sure that we do our coal communities proud.
