ROTARY Club of Chesterfield reports a £5,000 charity effort
In the absence due to illness of president Jim Haggarty, the first weekly meeting of 2013 for the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday last week was presided over by senior vice-president Mike Cudzich-Madry.
Mike reported that the club had raised the sum of £5,000 for Rotary charities when Santa’s Sleigh had visited local supermarkets during the month of December, and on behalf of the club he thanked the public of Chesterfield for their generous donations which would be used for the benefit of community action at home and abroad.
Members were reminded that the annual Burns Night celebration would be held at the Winding Wheel on Monday, January 28, 2013, 6.30pm for 7pm.
It was reported that the club had been drawn to play the Rotary Club of Matlock in the second round of the Rotary District Ten-Pin Bowling competition following the first round victory in December over the Rotary Club of Beeston.
The after-lunch speaker was Paul Halksworth, who gave a detailed account of the history of ‘Sutton Scarsdale Hall’. A vote of thanks to the speaker was proposed by past president Cyril Bates and the closing toast was proposed by past president Alan Clarke.
The next meeting tomorrow (Friday) is a business meeting and duty rotarian is Jim Boden.
