New club aims to grow membership
sp94042 Tibshelf Flower Club Appeal for Members. L-R, Wendy Schofield, Valerie Buddery, Jackie Brown.
fLOWER lovers are aiming to grow their club membership.
Tibshelf Flower Club was launched last autumn by Val Buddery, a qualified flower arranger, who holds a City and Guilds in contemporary floral and art design.
Around 14 members attend the club at Tibshelf Village Hall but at least 50 are needed for the club to become affiliated to the National Association of Flower Arrangement Societies.
Budding flower arrangers will be welcome at the club’s next meeting in Tibshelf Village Hall on February 10, from 7pm to 9pm.
Founder Val has lived in the Chesterfield area since September 2010, after moving from Burton-on-Trent where she was a member of the local flower club.
She said: “After being in Chesterfield for a while I did go to quite a few flower clubs but some of them left me feeling that I could do so much more. My flower club in Burton-on-Trent left me thinking that like them I could develop my skills and start my own flower club. It took me the best part of 12 months getting to know the area and other people that might assist me in my inspirations of this happening.
“I looked around for the perfect venue and decided on Tibshelf as there were no other flower clubs nearby that I would infringe on.”
She was helped in her quest by Wendy Schofield, joint owner of Oil Well Nurseries which she runs with her husband, who is now the club’s treasurer and Jackie Brown whose experience of running clubs and her husband’s business put her in pole position for the role of secretary.
