Staggering support
SIR — One again it is time to write and say thank you to everyone in the Chesterfield area who so willingly dips into their pockets to support the work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI).
Over recent weeks local collectors have been busy at a number of locations, with outstanding results.
A three day collection at the Sainsbury's store in Dronfield raised 1,181.11; the flag day in Chesterfield town centre and Vicar Lane Shopping made 1,028.46; and another three-day collection, this time at the Morrison's Superstore on Chatsworth Road, Chesterfield, raised a staggering 2,000.33 — just short of our record of 2,010 three years ago.
Fund-raising for the work of the Lifeboats might seem strange in Chesterfield, but it is only two years ago that lifeboats were operating in the South Yorkshrie area during the summer floods; and it is more relevant than ever this year when many of the East Coast beaches regularly visited by people from the Chesterfield area will, for the first time, be served by beach lifeguards trained and equipped by the RNLI.
