Short memory on blue boxes
On the subject of Blue Boxes, it is Alan Craw (Derbyshire Times, Feb 2) who has the short memory.
These boxes were NOT used for paper but for tins and bottles. Paper was put in the blue bags and in my experience remained secure without getting blown about.
The new blue bins are ill-conceived with too much space for tins, bottles and plastic and not enough space in the box at the top for paper and cardboard.
The lids are flimsy and easily sucked open by strong winds.
Ironically I now use my old blue box which is larger, to put papers and cardboard in.
I do worry that the mixture of tins, glass, and various grades of plastic is adequately sorted and does not end up as land fill. Perhaps you could do a an article on where these items end up.
