Put me in the picture

SIR — I found this old photograph amongst the belongings of my deceased mother. The problem I have is the fact that I know so little about it, and I am hoping your readers may be able to help me out.

The photograph is of a play that I believe was staged in the St Lawrence Church Hall on St Lawrence Road in North Wingfield, possibly just before the commencement of the Second World War.

The young woman standing second from the right is my mother, Phyllis Salway, later to become Phyllis Quick, who worked for Clay Cross Urban District Council and then NE Derbyshire District Council in Chesterfield.

The man with the bow tie sitting on the sofa is my grandfather, Robert Salway, who owned a drapers shop in Hepthorne Lane and was a Methodist lay-preacher on the Clay Cross circuit for many years as well as sitting on North Wingfield Parish Council.

Unfortunately, this is all the information I have on it. Perhaps some of your readers can identify the other individuals in the play or tell me the name of the drama group and a little about its activities.

John Quick,

Linslade,
