Protect our children
FOR quite some time now, I have requested improved safety for the 2- to 4½-year-old children attending Newbold Parish Church Pre School Nursery, at the Eagle Club on St Johns Road. This pre-school has been in existence for over 40 years.
So much importance is made by local authority officials in highlighting the need for health and safety, that it seems quite outrageous that the health and safety of our young children seems to be ignored.
One child has recently been knocked down whilst leaving the school, and only last week a mother, Karen Brennan, whilst waiting to cross the road with her child, had her handbag ripped from her by a speeding motorist.
I have also been informed that the lights adjacent to Littlemoor shops are not working in sequence and cars continue when pedestrians are shown the green light.
How many pre-school and nursery schools do we have in the borough of Chesterfield, and how many of them are protected with a school warning sign?
There is no doubt in my mind that we owe it to our children to be protected by such school warning signs, and a 20 miles per hour speed limit.
