It’s a mad, mad world where nobody talks

So Chesterfield Central Library now has four self-service terminals.

This means we can now drive into town, park the car, draw cash from the bank or building society, buy food at M&S, take letters to the post office and change our library books before going back to the car, without having dealt with a single human being.

Not good for the art of conversation, nor for the jobs market. Meanwhile, people who could be providing these services are looking for work and being told they must try harder.

It’s a mad, mad world
