DUNSTON: Intrepid ramblers navigate snowy trail

Twenty members of Dunston Walking Group, led by Maurice Cardall, travelled by bus to Cutthorpe. They went from Ingmanthorpe to Pratt Hall before crossing the main road and going down Overgreen and onto Oxton Rakes for the splendid views looking out to the River Trent.

The party went onto Newgate and then down to Barlow Church for a coffee break before heading back over by Elm Tree farm and Furnace Lane to Barlow fish pond and then along the Sudbrook to Sheepbridge.

A small party ventured out on a very snowy trail, led by Granville Harby and David Belfit, first going from the Oval at Sutton-in-Ashfield.

After leaving the Carsic estate the party went via the pit ponds, now transformed, and on to the visitors centre at Huthwaite. They went onto the Silverhill Trails and on to Woodend for lunch.

After lunch, the party returned to the trail looking up Strawberry Bank to the highest point in Nottinghamshire. They returned over the border back into Derbyshire and onto the fish ponds at Newton, before picking up the Five Pits Trails back to Tibshelf Church for the return journey to Chesterfield.

Next week’s walk takes in Teversal, Bessie Shepherds Walk, Hardwick Hall and Glapwell.
