DERBYSHIRE: Youth hostel charity gets gold award
Oxford YHA & AGM
DERBYSHIRE-BASED youth hostelling charity YHA has established itself as one the region’s and the UK’s top employers after being awarded Investors in People Gold standard.
This is one of the highest honours given to an organisation following continued improvement in performance and the development of staff.
The award of IiP Gold standard follows the naming of YHA as one of the East Midlands’ best employers in the regional final of the National Apprenticeship Awards and National Training Awards 2012.
The charity employs around 1500 people across 150 locations, 120 of which are based at its head office in Matlock. The achievement of the Gold standard now puts YHA in the top 2per cent of organisations across the UK that have achieved the prestigious accolade. Prior to achieving the Gold standard, only 12 months earlier YHA was awarded IiP Silver status.
The Gold standard is only given to organisations who can demonstrate excellence in developing and supporting their staff and follows rigorous reporting and a review by an independent assessor.
The independent assessment and report, which covered all staff, praised YHA, stated: “One of the results is that the overwhelming number of people now say, unequivocally, that the YHA is a great place to work.”
The organisation was also commended in the IiP report for “the strong feeling of wellbeing” among employees.
Delighted at the charity’s achievement YHA Chief Executive Caroline White said: “We are thrilled to receive the Gold award for Investors in People.
“It’s a great result and it’s really pleasing that staff see YHA as a great place to work. It is an achievement on the part of all of YHA and just confirms what our members and customers say – that our people help make us really special.”
