cyclists are not issue: Drivers watch out
I would like to respond to a letter in the Derbyshire Times – ‘Cyclists are the problem’.
The letter states that a cyclist didn’t look over their shoulder before overtaking a parked vehicle.
If you can see a parked vehicle coming up, how else is the cyclist going to get around it?
Drivers (taught this when learning to drive) are supposed to read the road ahead and see that the cyclist, car or motorbike that is in front will need to pull further out into the road to be able to get around the parked vehicle/obstacle.
It isn’t the cyclist that causes the accidents, it’s the drivers not reading the road.
I’m aware not all cyclists stick to the Highway Code, but use your head when you do approach cyclists, and leave plenty of room.
