David Moore led 18 walkers from Chesterfield Ramblers on a walk inspired by the Eyre family.

The ramblers made their way from Newbold’s 13th century Eyre Chapel and headed for the Eyre Arms at Calver, one of two pubs of that name around the old Eyre enclave of Hassop. They had reasonable ground conditions bearing, in mind the snow, with much of the countryside to themselves.

The walk went via Holmebrook Valley, Linacre, Bluster Castle, and Shillito Woods and the walkers cut across Birchen Edge to the Robin Hood pub to catch a return bus.

The photo is taken on Nelson Monument, Birchen Edge.
