Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted early morning bid to break into a bank in Staveley.
The incident happened on Church Street, when a man was spotted by a member of the public trying to break in through the front door of Lloyds TSB.

After failing to gain access, he made his escape in blue car which had been parked outside the building.

A police spokesman, said: "It was reported by a witness who saw a blue car, possibly a Subaru or Mitsubishi, parked outside the bank and a male trying to break in the front door allegedly.

"He didn't manage to get in, but tried using unknown instruments.

"He then made off in a car in the direction of Staveley town centre."

Police have described the man as white, 5ft 7ins tall, medium build, wearing a baseball cap, dark waist-length jacket, dark trousers and a dark scarf covering the lower half of his face.

Monday's attempted break-in happened at 4.50am.
