A Chesterfield band is staging a fund-raising concert at one of the town's top venues in memory of a campaigning journalist who died of leukaemia aged 27.

The Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band has organised the 'Brass n Sax' event at the Winding Wheel in support of 'Baldy Blogger' Adrian Sudbury's nominated charities Leukaemia Research and The Anthony Nolan Trust.

His sister Carrie (24) plays tro
mbone in the band and said the family wanted to celebrate Adrian, whose campaign for better education about bone marrow donation gained the backing of Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

She said: "It's been so sad recently and we want a happy occasion to get the word out there and celebrate him.

"It's also an opportunity to raise as much money as possible for the charities that meant so much to my brother."

As well as music from the Ireland Colliery Chesterfield Band, South Side Jazz and Stannington Brass Band, the event features an auction with items including a shirt worn by tennis star Andy Murray in the US Open final up for grabs.

Tickets for the concert, which takes place on Sunday, October 19, cost £10 for adults, £5 for children. They are available from the Winding Wheel on (01246) 345222.
Money raised will also go to Hope for Life Ministries.
