CONCERNED residents fear proposals for power-generating wind turbines could turn a quiet rural area into a noisy eyesore.
Paul and Alison Rodgers, of Back Lane, Palterton, were shocked to learn in a community newsletter how plans were being proposed for five windmill-style turbines near their village.

Mrs Rodgers said: "We live in an attractive village and feel this
development would be noisy and an eyesore which would not fit in with its rural character."

Banks Renewables, of County Durham, is considering installing the wind turbines between Palterton, Stoney Houghton and Glapwell and is preparing a public exhibition before submitting any planning application.

Developers met Scarcliffe Parish Council last Tuesday, September 30, to establish a possible exhibition venue to display plans, gauge public reaction and reassure residents.

The plans, according to the council, include four or five 135metre-high turbines which will be taller than other turbines.

Banks told the council they feel the turbines would benefit the community and provide an environmentally-friendly power source.

Mrs Rodgers said she planned to inform residents with leaflets, is considering a petition and urging people to prepare objections if an application is submitted.

Bolsover District Council said it had not received a proposal for the turbines but stressed all applications would involve public notices and consultations.

Phil Dyke, managing director of Banks Renewables, said: "We feel we need to inform people and we will soon be circulating leaflets and from November 10 we're holding exhibitions and we're considering possible venues.

"We will inform people and answer questions because we know people have concerns but this renewable energy project would help Bolsover meet green targets and we will be considering ways of supporting the community including helping to fight fuel poverty."
