Hundreds of protesters packed into Chesterfield's Winding Wheel on Thursday night to express their anger at plans to build a waste gasification plant on their doorstep.
More than 500 local residents and business owners attended the special public meeting to express their concerns about the proposal for the Sheepbridge Resource Park.

Bosses from Cyclamax – the company behind the development – spoke about why they think the plant is needed but were put under intense pressure during a question and answer session.

A presentation was also given by action group Chesterfield Against Incinerators in which members gave details about the reasons they are opposed to the gasification plant, including health fears, traffic concerns and questions about the suitability of the technology.

  • For more details about and reaction to the meeting see next Thursday's Derbyshire Times.
