A midnight walk to raise funds for cancer research was completed only four days after the brave Leabrooks teenager who instigated the trek died.
Katie Taylor (15) lost her two-year battle against malignant melanoma –– an aggressive form of skin cancer –– on June 17.
Four days later 157 walkers walked five miles at midnight in her honour and raised £8,075 for the Myfanwy Townsend Melanoma Research Fund –– a charity that increases awareness of the disease and one day hopes to find a cure.
Her parents Alison and Wayne presented Harry Townsend of the fund with a cheque.
Alison said: "We hope it will become an annual nationwide event: already friends of Katie are organising walks in Derbyshire, Cornwall and Wales."
Another cheque presented in memory of Katie came from the The Limekiln Pub in Wirksworth; funds had been raised with a rock concert and a bungee jump.
Other events taking place in memory of Katie include a sponsored bike ride from Land's End to John O'Groats, an open garden party in Wirksworth and a wine and wisdom night organised by Katie's friends Susan, Pauline and Carys Williams to raise funds for a memorial bench.
